How We Worship

Worship looks contemporary and ancient at the same time at Emmanuel. Clergy will wear traditional Anglican vestments. Our music may be Gospel, Hymns, or Contemporary Christian, depending on the message of the song. Music at Emmanuel is ever developing, but we see songs as another form of engagement with God and instructional at the same time. What we believe as Christans should come through in the songs. Lyrics are powerful. Words are powerful. We try to be intentional with the formation of a service that shapes you for a long life that is pleasing to God.

We take scripture and learning seriously at Emmanuel, therefore you can expect a 15-20 min sermon that attempts to convey a central tenant of the Gospel, as taught in the Biblical text. Some folks get weird about this. We’re not weird. We’ll simply follow the lectionary and preach the themes of the Bible.

Often people come to worship for other people, the band, or the snacks. That’s not the point of Sunday morning. We do get to see other people, but Sunday is to receive the bread of life from God’s word and from His table. It’s also the time to worship God and experience the process of humbling ourselves before the feet of our creator. It’s a powerful process. Often throughout the service we hear the Lord speaking to us. Our worship is participating in the conversation.

Our life groups and courses like ALPHA are the times when we grow stronger together. These are the times when we share the ways we navigate life and strengthen each other through community. At Emmanuel, we seek to offer many opportunities for this mutual growth!

At Emmanuel, we recognize our tithe as the beginning of generosity. Grow with us! When we really think about it, God’s request for simply 10% of what we earn is quite generous, as we believe it is all God’s anyway
