Emmanuel is a gathering of people who know something about church, but want to belong to a space where they can seek the depths of the faith with others. The testament that God is with us (Emmanuel) rings true for us, for we’re deeply aware of the world around us who believe in an absent God. You’ve probably seen it too. We believe God’s goodness reigns true even as the world testifies opposite. We believe God has called us to say something in response, empowering each of us to be part of His redeeming work. We find out our charge from the Lord through intentional, patient and communal prayer and worship. We listen to the wisdom of the Scriptures, and we attempt to turn the world’s heart back to God within our spheres of influence, as we seek first the Kingdom of God.
We’re an ancient faith, so we allow the seasons of the calendar (Easter, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, etc) to guide our engagement with the Life of Jesus, both before and after.
As a church, we’re not afraid of our differences. Our multiethnic, multigenerational makeup is an asset to life together. Our differences of age, gender, marital status, and ethnic background, all bring a unique perspective to the conversation of growth in Christ, a unique wisdom. We often live life sectioned into our groups. We interpret social events and Biblical narratives from our cultural makeup alone, but at Emmanuel we’re exploring the ways we are blind to the fullness of human experience through intentional self reflection.
